Turtle Land of Oman and Water Canyon Adventure of Tiwi – Travel Nomadista

Annually, lots of turtles migrate to the beaches of the Arab Peninsula to lay their eggs. In Oman, the peak time for the turtles’ migration is between April and August of every year. Approximately 20,000 turtles come to some of Oman’s beaches, especially the eastern ones, to lay 50,000 to 60,000 eggs.
If you want to see plenty of turtles, you should do it at night until the early morning. During the day you may see some, but it’s not until it gets dark that hundreds of them go there to lay their eggs.
Our trip will capture these precious moments on a remote beach where many turtles choose a place to lay their eggs.

You may think that summer in Oman will be too hot, but as a matter of fact, our beach Ras Al Hadd Beach, is really fresh even in the middle of summer.

Day One: Friday in the evening, we will leave Dubai around 6 pm and head to Muscat to stay the night in a 4-star hotel on a sharing basis.

Day Two: Saturday: Wake up and have breakfast around 07:00 a.m. and check out from our hotel then we will head to Meebam; a small Omani village at the top of the mountain. Our Omani guide will be waiting there for us with helmets and life jackets( A must-wear!) This is a narrow steep off-road track that requires 4×4 cars where we will start our water adventure in a canyon, jumping from one natural pool to another in a beautiful scenic mountain with a stunning waterfall. We will do a full loop in the canyon and then reach back to the village of Meebam. This requires a beginner + level of fitness. If you prefer not to go through the water canyon, then you can lounge by the freshwater pools until the rest of the group come back.

Then, we will head to the village of Sur where we will have our lunch and then check in our beach Chalet in Ras Al Had.
Around 07:30 pm after watching sunset at the beach, we will head to Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve for a guided tour. Our guide will explain the whole process of turtle egg laying, nesting, and hatching and we will be guaranteed to witness this natural wonder with grand-sized turtles. You will get to see many turtles coming over to lay eggs and might see small turtles getting hatched and going to the water. You have to use the red light only on your headlamp and no flash photography.

The most important thing you should have in mind is not to disturb them, moreover, when they are making holes in the sand —it can take them hours! So get ready for some meditative moments. Turtles don’t hear too much but they have an awesome vision. So as long as you have no light with you and you are not in their camp of vision, you can chill around in silence. So of course, if you want to take a picture, definitely forget about your flash!
You will see that once they finish, they will head back to the sea. And two months after the eggs that were just laid will be ready to be broken by really tiny turtles. Then we will head back to the beach chalets for dinner.

Day Three: Sunday, In the morning, we will have our breakfast in the chalet and enjoy some sunrise scenery then head to Ras Al Had beach to take the speed boat for a 3-hour underwater safari with a chance to see dolphins, swim with the turtles and then snorkel in Ras Al Had lagoon for rick coral reef life.

Then we will head back to Muscat for lunch on our way to Dubai which marks the end of our adventure.
